Children and Chiropractic Care MN
Parents will do just about anything in protecting their children’s health. We serve them nutritional and balanced meals, encourage exercise, insist on regular checkups with their pediatrician, and get routine dental and eye exams. However, some overlook a very important part of your child(s) health care and that is having regular spine checkups.
Can My Child Come to The Chiropractor?
Chiropractic care is an outgrowth of belief in the concept that your body has a natural and powerful ability to heal itself. Your body’s structure; bones, joints, muscles, and capacity for healthy function are closely intertwined and that Chiropractic treatment helps balance your body’s structure and function and promotes self-healing. Chiropractor care is not just for adults or for people who’s been involved in an accident. There are medical benefits in seeing a chiropractor which I will explain more below.
Common Reason for Children to See a Chiropractor
While a Doctor of Chiropractic, doesn’t treat or cure illnesses, many common childhood disorders may be a result of nervous system interference or malfunction caused by spine related problems. Chiropractic Care for children has been shown to help:
- To strengthen immunity
- To help with colic or irritable bowel syndrome
- To improve spinal posture
- To help with behavioral issues
- To help alleviate bed wetting
- Allergies
- Hyperactivity (ADD/ADHD) and learning disorders
- To offering greater emotional well-being
While chiropractors do not “treat” ADD/ADHD, the effects of chiropractic care on children diagnosed with learning disorders and hyperactivity have been described in a growing body of scholarly publications. A study was done back in 1975, comparing chiropractic care with drug treatment in children with learning and behavioral impairments due to neurological dysfunction. It has also been reported that chiropractic care is 24% more effective than that of commonly used medication.
The chiropractic’s approach to healthcare is focusing on the patients overall health. Chiropractors provide natural, drugless, nonsurgical health treatments that solely rely on the body’s inherent recuperative abilities. Chiropractors follow a standard routine to get information needed to diagnose and treat patients. They take patients health history; conduct a physical and an orthopedic examination. Some chiropractors use additional procedures in their practice, including therapies using heat, water, lights massage, ultrasounds and electric currents. They may also utilize equipment such as straps, tape, braces, or shoe inserts.
Obviously, we all as parents want what’s best for our children. We want them to be happy and most importantly, we want them to be healthy. That means making chiropractic checkups as a regular part of their health care routine.
